For Businesses

Cultural Understanding

If your company conducts business internationally or works across geographical borders or social differences, you may encounter cultural misunderstandings.  We can bring understanding into interpersonal relationships and cross-cultural collaboration.  We bring our anthropological expertise, international experience, and language skills to bridge these gaps between you and your colleagues, you and your collaborators, and between you and your clients.

Sensitivity Training Workshops

We recognize that companies may want to organize sensitivity training workshops for a variety of reasons.  You may have experienced tensions, conflict, or even lawsuits based on diversity issues. Or you may want to work toward avoiding such conflicts by building common understandings.  Cambridge Diversity Consulting workshops, because of our unique perspective, can be extremely useful in either case.  Our workshops will strengthen collegial bonds by building new understandings of racial and ethnic issues in a way that goes beyond simply emphasizing differences.  We will engage people in real dialogue — reducing superficial confrontations and creating a more comfortable work environment.  These workshops can be short sessions of no more than two hours or they can involve more meetings and preparatory research sessions.  Workshops may be tailored to particular circumstances or events and to any number of participants.  The shared understanding that we build may change the productivity and collaborative power of your company for years to come.

Strategic Planning

Cambridge Diversity Consulting can help you conceptualize diversity related initiatives and to think through challenges your organization may be facing. We bring the ability to integrate qualitative and quantitative research, which helps us analyze how diversity issues may be affecting your bottom line.  After consultation, we can report back with well-written summaries and clear presentations that allow you to create a plan of action — one which creates greater understanding, more productivity, and a new vision for your future.  Consultation services are specifically developed for your organization’s needs.  Contact the Director, Michael Baran, with questions.

For Schools

Curriculum Development:

Schools, pre-schools, and after-school programs are increasingly motivated to create curricula and programs that teach students about race, ethnicity, and culture in sensitive ways.  This is an extremely exciting and promising development.  However, it is difficult to design curricula that break through the misconceptions about race.  Often our best efforts can subtly reproduce the very boundaries and issues we are trying to rethink.  Cambridge Diversity Consulting encourages students to think about social categories in truly new and groundbreaking ways.  We can help teachers put together a multi-media program that is culturally sensitive, age-appropriate, fun, and engaging.  We can work with you to design a one-day workshop or tribute (Martin Luther King Jr. Day, for example) or a longer program.

Teacher Training:

We provide training so that teachers and administrators will feel confident as they implement new curricula and programs.  Even with the right program in place, teachers and administrators will benefit from their own workshops and trainings. We can provide basic training in preparation for teaching a diversity program and then we can also be available to consult for specific questions or concerns as they come up.

Workshops for Students

With a decade of research on the processes through which children and young adults learn about race, we conduct workshops and trainings for students.  If you are planning a special program for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, for example, or Columbus Day, we can show your student body a new face of history and a new way to apply the lessons that the past provides.  In other workshops and programs, we teach about human history, race and ethnicity in ways that students will find immediately relevant and eye opening.  Presentations are fun and engaging so that students stay focused and receptive to the important lessons we teach.

For governmental and non-governmental organizations

Cultural Understanding

Sensitivity Training Workshops

We recognize that governmental and non-governmental organizations, just like businesses, may want to organize sensitivity training workshops for a variety of reasons.  You may have experienced tensions, conflict, or even lawsuits based on diversity issues.  Or you may want to work toward avoiding such conflicts by building common understandings.  Cambridge Diversity Consulting workshops, because of our unique perspective, can be extremely useful in either case.
